What changes inside TIM with the departure of its president?
TIM sent a statement to Bovespa informing that:
"in the night of May 4th 2012, Mr. Luca Luciani let the company and presented his resignation to all his positions inside Grupo Telecom Itália's companies."
Luca took over TIM's presidency in Jan/09, after the period when the carrier had lost the 2nd position in cellular market share in 2008 (more details). In Feb/09, the company cleaned its base what caused negative net adds of 823 thousand cellulars in that month (more details).
The company established a plan based on market growth in voice what led TIM to recover the second position in cellular market share and increase its market share from 23.5% in 1Q09 to 26.8% two years later.

Infinity plan innovated in the simple way of charge for the service, what led to growth in minutes of use (MOU) of cellular clients in Brazil. Other operators adopted similar plans.

Infinity plan caused also a transformation in other Brazilian market: inside long distance segment. TIM reached the leadership in Dec/11 with market share of 46.5% of long distance minutes.

The acquisition of Intelig provided TIM with a transmission network of national size what make possible the launch of Infinity plan. TIM is willing to continue to innovate with the acquisition of AES Atimus and launch TIM Fiber that will offer high speed fixed broadband inside the metropolitan regions of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
This growth didn't happen only in access and traffic, but also in revenue and in TIM's results.
In 2008, Telecom Italia faced growth problems in Italy and come up with a strategic plan in which TIM Brasil had the responsibility for the growth of Group's revenue (more details). The plan projected average increase of 8% year until 2011. TIM's net revenue grew an average of 9.1% in the period, making 18% in 2011.

Independent of the reasons that drove to the departure, it's important to recognize the professional job of high quality carried out by Luca Luciani in the presidency of TIM Brasil. He established and executed successfully a strategic plan that led the company to resume growth and conquer the second position in cellular market share in Brazil.
Changing presidents generate expectations about its impact in TIM's future performance. What is expected from the next president and TIM's teamwork: to keep the trajectory of innovation and success that has been the carrier's characteristics in the last years.
